Wire Rope
Committed To Quality
Wire Rope Products
Armstrong / Alar Chain Corporation has been an industry-leading supplier of high-quality standard and custom wire ropes and other related products and accessories for over 25 years. Our wire ropes are available in a wide range of diameters, tensile strengths, and materials—including iron, steel, galvanized improved plow steel (IPS), and stainless steel T304 and T316. We also stock a complete line of wire rope accessories, such as anchor shackles, clips, thimbles and turnbuckles for connecting, securing, and, tensioning wire ropes.
Regardless of your application, we can design and manufacture a wire rope to suit your technical requirements.
Wire Rope
At Armstrong / Alar, our wire ropes consist of:
- A fiber or steel inner core
- A layer of wrapped or braided multi-wire strands of stainless steel or IPS
- An additional outer layer of wrapped or braided wire strands made with iron, steel, bright steel, T304 and T316 stainless steel, and galvanized IPS
This three-layered design increases the density of our wire rope and reduces its risk of fraying or breaking, allowing for superior tensile strength and durability compared to other wires, cables, and steel chains.
Most wire ropes feature six strands, each of which has 15–66 wires. The higher the wire-count, the stronger the strand. We maintain a broad selection of wire ropes available for immediate delivery, including:
- 6x19 Class wire ropes with 15–26 wires per strand
- 6x37 Class wire ropes with 27–46 wires per strand
These wire ropes come in fiber core or IWRC variations with diameters ranging from ¼ to 1 1/3 and tensile strengths of 2.74 tons to 69.4 tons.

Wire Rope Fittings
We also maintain a full line of wire rope accessories to facilitate connection, securing, and tensioning operations. These products are available in galvanized, stainless, and zinc-plated steel and include:
- Also known as U-bolt clamps, clips are available in sizes ranging from 1/16 to 1-1/8 inches. They are used for creating an “eye” at the end of a wire rope when it is looped back on itself and are secured by tightening the nuts on either end.
- These accessories are used alongside clips—fitting inside the “eye” formed by the wire rope and clip—to prevent wire ropes from fraying.
- Turnbuckles facilitate proper tension when securing wire ropes. They consist of rotating hook ends and a threaded bolt. When a wire rope is secured at one end, rotating one end of the turnbuckle extends or retracts the threaded bolt, reducing or increasing tension.
For a complete list of wire rope accessories, see our accessory products page.
